@sam21097 I recommend 6-8 blocks *above* the top layer of bedrock. So, that would be about 10-12 blocks from the very bottom. That keeps you within the 0-16 range of diamonds, while also being safely above magma – apart from the rare magma flows found above the bottom levels. I’ve used this method a few times now, and it’s both very safe and very productive.

@ghrocket Not really, you can just dig outwards further and you’ll still get the same effect. But to mine a hallway that big is just a waste of time and resources.

@sam21097 You an start at bedrock, that is a bad idea, since diamonds are more rare under block layer 10. And also, if you are 2 blocks above 10, then you won;t find as much lava, as lava starts pooling at level 10.

To be precise, i believe the term is root mining, developed by the idea of using a central cave, or taproot, and mine individual shafts of smaller size to extract all resources from the area. Thanks For your tip, i havent used this plan yet. I’ll definetley have to try this mining techinique.
Dam nice mine! I would get lost in there. My plan to get that deep is to make an agriculture island to make LOADS of bread to regen my health, tons of torches and leather, LOTS of it. I am in the bread stage as of right now. I have about half of a large chest filled so I will move out once it’s filled. Any suggestions?

look down one of the tunnel/branch/shaft/things, now look at the roof block, you never see the line of blocks the the left and right of each one

If you’re trying to be efficient, and fast, leave a three block gap between each branch. It is really rare that a diamond will only be in the middle and not show on the sides. Also, count the blocks, don’t make another hallway at the end for a marker. And is the wide open space in the middle really necessary?

@wiscombe1 The main one is probably 150 blocks long or so, give or take a bit. The side branches tend to be around 30 blocks long.
How long is that branch?
