Just so people know, SketchUp is BIM etc. maybe you should look at it and see all the “Plub-in’s” there are’ and open-your-eyes’ :o )

    yep really good

    @youngnewmanbyrne
    Of course he can.
Sketchup is way more powerful than you realise, yes its a fast way of putting together buildings n shapes etc but its capable of more than just for visuals, its used by professionals worldwide as it exports .obj files compatibile with Maya and 3D Max.

Your assuming what you see is the best it can do, its certainly not. When combined with the vray plugin, it looks FANTASTIC. If you doubt me, youtube it ;-) , its photo realistic.

I like SketchUp. This is a good program, thanks to her I got good grades in college and graduated from college with honors

If you have a business in google sketch up than that sir, is very depressing.

@hopala007 BIM is here, 3D BIM is the only way forward and will be the norm for years to come. You’ll be a dinosaur in a few years if you don’t open your eyes !

  12. youngnewmanbyrne says:

Absolutely shocking if you think you can product a full set of technical drawings from Sketch up. Its a basic visualization tool, that is it …

  13. hopala007 says:

@nrcadman Well you didnt read my comment good I see. I sad that it is a good program for architects and designers. That doenst mean its also good to make technical drawings with it.

I hope that you dont need no 19 years do see the difference between design and engineering.

  14. normanbuchholtz says:

    @hopala007
you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

  15. nrcadman says:

    @hopala007
I”m going to guess you are neither a college student nor a practicing professional by your comments. I’ve been designing for more than 19 years and have been teaching CAD based systems at the college level for more than 10 years. Revit is most definitely not a trend and with the BIM requirements of local, state and Federal agencies it is one of the most complete tools in the market place. The parametric qualities that Revit offers is unsurpassed.

    Saying that, Sketchup is great!

    hi paul

  17. hopala007 says:

Its a good program for architects and designers. But if you need detailled technical drawing its better to use autocad.

And dont try revit because its crap and expensive. And the productivity is really low.
Revit is just a trend nothing more. You can do the same and more with autocad.

@sketchupireland thank you too. $49/yr sounds tempting but personally what I do is to cobine SU with CAD via photoshop. Sometimes though I use the version 7 of SU with the dwg importer plugin free from google. What is of great help too, is the SU Podium and V-ray renderers. All these softwares are free to use, or have a pretty desent free version, perhaps the only one that worths buying is the SU podium which costs $79 but offers a great deal of rendering formats and image resolutions.

  32. LibyanLioness says:

so then whats the difference bettween revit structure and architecture are they both different software

  33. TFWKYK says:

wow i can not belive the improvment in this program. i wish the my school would upgrade

  34. goth2be453 says:

    i have 2008… it sucks!!!!!

  35. Paulhotaling says:

inventor, rivet, and autocad all have the same ribbon feel now. its very different

  36. dewalt23293 says:

i relly like then new 2010

  37. Antphoneigh says:

Thank GOd AUtoDesk has reverted to MS’s ribben interface. I really like the future of software interfaces. yay

  38. hunzekerk says:

I am college senior and have been working with Revit for the past 4 years. I have become quite familiar with the old UI but I think a change to this new one will not be nearly as bad as everyone thinks. The change from Office 03 to 07 was equally drastic, but I picked it up within a few hours of trying it.

Change isn’t always bad, it’s just different. Don’t kill it before you’ve made an effort.

  39. jjhuckabee says:

Way different from previous builds… where the hell is everything haha

  40. evolnevll says:

You will all use the ribbon, and you’ll like it! ;)

  41. 8FtSpider says:

    Agreed.

  42. sovican says:

I dont buy the argument that its more intuitive, better organized, more streamlined, nor that it has faster access to tools and commands. Isnt that all the same thing anyway? Also, Im not sure how it allows for a larger drawing window didnt we just replace a one area for another to get a proportion less like a standard paper ratio?

It seems that the main driving force here is to have a standard Autodesk interface format, which is extremely disconcerting to me.

  43. kittyket00 says:

excuse me, but I hate the ribbon. how do I change it back to the classic view???

  44. sesomyort says:

The first time I saw this ribbon tool was with microsoft office programs and it confused the he** out me. I gave up on Acad’s latest version for the same reason and now Revit! I love Revit so I guess I have to give this a shot.

  45. RevitDesigner says:

this change is half evil. The icons should be editable like the CUI in CAD, I finally gave up trying to leave the ribbon as is and reorganized it to use my other monitor, I wonder if they would create a data tablet interface, so no icons are on screen, like in the good old days of AutoCAD, before it was destroyed by the windows OS and icons cluttering up space.

  46. supermercadooo says:

Download the trial version and see if it’s appliacable to your needs.

  47. clellchatman says:

This is great, the ribbon is a fantastic innovation for efficiency. Only problem with it is convincing the old guard to give it a chance and get over their concept of “change is evil.”

  48. 00italy11 says:

I hate the ribbon in MS Office 2007 and after a few days trying to learn it, but being super-unproductive, i cancelled it and went back to Office 2003.

What happes if i need to do the same here, downgrading from 2010 to 2009? Office costs 130 euros… not the same for Revit.
Will Revit Italy fund me back thousands euros should I downgrade?
If not, I will need a lawyer to sue them.. and get some money back. I dont lose thousands euros without complaining at all…

  49. septima99 says:

They did it to AutoCAD 2009 last year, now they are doing it to Revit. Very counterproductive, in my opinion.

  50. malik1211989 says:

we”ve got to learn this also, dame it !!
